The Most Ridiculous
A new Change Log comic about the power of social media.
We get offended by everything. I have serious concerns about this now. It started out as a joke but it’s not really funny any more. And, look, I’m not saying it’s ok to be a jerk to people, but it’s certainly within our rights to do so - especially in the US. I see stories about other countries passing laws that could put people in jail for saying something offensive and it’s a bit terrifying. The word “hate” gets thrown around a lot (way too much if you ask me) to the point where actual bigotry is starting to get diluted. Obviously, we should all respect each other. But there are jerks in the world and throwing them in jail for saying something stupid, even if it hurts someone else’s feelings, is a dangerous path to start down. I don’t like the idea of people saying mean and offensive things either, but who decides what is mean and offensive? If we give that authority to our government, do you trust them to not take it to far? I sure don’t. If the past few years has taught us anything, it should be that these people have no problem lying to us to control us. Any good will I had for them is long gone and now I’m skeptical of everything they do - as we probably should have been all along. Social media provides a great place to manipulate large groups of people, and that’s not going anywhere so I’m not sure if there’s a solution to this… other than to point it out when you see it. And obviously, write jokes about it in comic strips.
The Harrisburg Comic and Pop show is coming up soon! You can get all the info about it here. I’ll be there with all of my books, prints, and stickers as well as original art and free quick sketches. It should be a really fun show so if you’re in the area, come say hi. I’ll be at table A11. Also, if you come see me there, mention that you saw this email and I’ll give you a free sticker pack! Hope to see you there.
